I have been adding a post in my other blog concerning the unisex trend (see there). And I believe that it has an impact later on when it comes to female leadership and access to upper echelons in both society and companies. Girls are educated in a way that the group is important and everyone should have its place and be happy whereas boys will be encourage to compete, bet the first place in the team and develop leadership skills (this is a really simplified description on the topic. More detailed information can be found in "Play like a Man, Win Like a Woman" form Gail Evans or in the little older "Second Sex" from Simone de Beauvoir).
This unisex trend of clothing represents for me a "ten step backwards" in the evolution for women and their leadership as well as their place in the society. Yes indeed those clothes are really nice and I sympathize with the designers who found this idea. I would however rather buy such clothes in the girl alt. boys division of a clothes shop rather than in a clothes shop with no indication. My children do differ, "d*mn it! Two boys, one girl. And now I hear that I should get them dress the same? Even though I do not like the pink/blue fashion, My daughter usually inherit of her brothers' clothes and they fit really well. So why should I get clothes with no clear gender when actually boys clothes suit my girl and for my older son who is quite thin, it is easier to buy jeans in the girls division (well without the glitter, heart-shaped pocket or flower-belts, but the cut suit perfectly!).
Leadership is something that can be learn definitively. But what signal are sent to future generations when unisex trend come and take over? No difference at all between each other... Instead I would rather emphasize their difference to IMPROVE our society, see how to complete each other by our difference in seeing things....
Let's see how far this trend goes...
