What's the Glass Ceiling and why the interest?

The Glass Ceiling corresponds to the invisible barriers that women face on their way to the upper echelon og a company hierarchy. The so few number of female in deciding organs, at top-level positions (e.g. CEO) or members in boards of directors is clearly a fact that none should be ignoring.

I have chosen to focus on the glass ceiling effect while writing my MBA dissertation. This became an investigation into career opportunities for women within the IT industry in Sweden. Of course the time frame required limitations in the topic studied. The choice seemed quite obvious to study the IT industry, working myself in this industry. Why Sweden? Well, quite obvious as well as I am living here and felt that the country in itself was selling quite interesting ideas on equality of opportunities among gender but that the facts and reality were far from the theory and wishes from the politicians.

I will dedicate this blog to my thoughts on the topic, related to what I read in newspapers or on the web, what I hear and experience in life.
